On February 27, 2018 parliamentary hearing on tuberculosis was held in Tajikistan. Members of the Parliament, representatives of Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population of RT, Ministry of Finance of RT, General Prosecutor’s Office of RT, Republican Center of Protection of Population from Tuberculosis (National TB program), National Coordination Committee on AIDS, TB and Malaria, and two members of “Stop TB Partnership, Tajikistan”-the TB-REP grantee organization participated in the event.
Member of the Global TB Caucus made presentation on Pandemic cost, 2017, highlighting on decrease of external funding supports and on the importance of the upcoming the United Nations High-Level Meeting on TB.
Director of National TB program among other things presented solutions for current challenges, including gradual increase of TB financing in view of decreasing external funding, necessary support of TB sector workers to insure sustainability of personnel base, increase involvement of the public and other government agencies in TB, development of assistance to address the needs of people with TB (the possibility of opening a charity fund) as well as TB sector state budget for 2015-2020.
Safarali Naimov, Secretary of Stop TB Partnership, Tajikistan - the TB-REP grantee highlighted the importance of people-centred TB care. As a MDR-TB survivor he expressed how the improvement of technical capacity of national TB program has been felt at level of persons with TB. TB-REP project partner also highly appraised TB doctors and patient community’s participation within the implementation of the patient-centred model of care and expressed confidence that the attention of MPs to TB issues in the country will bring changes and accelerates progress against TB and its drug-resistance.
The hearing was concluded by decision to continue discussion of key issues in the working order.
